Centres asks State to return unspent Rs 17.88 crore

NEW DELHI: The Central Department of Tourism has directed Kerala to either return or set aside for other plans the remaining sum of Rs 17.88 crore which has not been spent yet. The fund was allowed by the Centre during the period from 2003 to 2007.


The Centre’s direction comes in the light of the programme evaluation conducted at Thiruvananthapuram last month. The Centre also promised to allow fund for the 2003-2004 plans if the State gives a renewed programme in connection with the facilities of boating services at Bolgatty Island.

Centre will give up the programme for renewing the Thekkinkad maidan which amounts to Rs. 3.91 crore. The State has also been advised to complete within March 2010 the works of Vizhinjam Art and Craft Village under the supervision of Tourism Director.

The State will not lose the centre’s allowed fund if the various plan including that of Neyyar Dam, Kumarakom, Iringal Village within March.
