29 Jan 2010, 1511 hrs IST

Bhopal: There is some relief for India's women hockey players. The Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh Shivraj Singh Chouhan distributed cheques to the players whom he hosted on Thursday night. The 23 players, who won a silver medal in the Asia Cup received Rs 2 lakh each while the rest of the girls in the camp got one lakh each.

The Chief Minister had given Rs 1 crore to the Sports Ministry for the players - however the ministry still has to release that amount to the team.

The women have been staging a silent protest for over a week now because of the non-payment of their dues.
